Thammasin Sitthikom stuns Tommy Sugiarto in 2013 Thailand Open ? Badminton news
An upset was observed in the opening round of SCG Thailand Open as a lower ranked contestant Thammasin Sitthikom defeated the hot favourite Tommy Sugiarto on Wednesday, June 5, 2013.
This Men?s Singles tussle remained in full swing for 71 minutes as both contenders displayed great fighting spirit while piling up decisive figures of 16-21, 21-19 and 21-17. A huge crowd assembled in local badminton complex of Bangkok, Thailand and they got a valid reason to celebrate when the native shuttler registered a splendid victory.
Thammasin took some time to read his rival?s strategy as he lost the opening game but he showed great maturity in the ending two games and wrapped this showdown in a favourable manner.
On the other hand, Tommy Sugiarto took off in perfect manner but then a below par performance brought him down. The Indonesian player started his campaign with few back-to-back productive rallies and raised his chances of success.
He kept on playing with an authoritative approach and doubled the pressure by registering a decent figure of 11 before interval. He did not make any mistake in latter part of the game and placed a winning margin of 21-16.
However, it proved his last success in this tournament as the opposing shuttler showed a strong character in the following games and cast him out.
The young but talented Thai campaigner served the notice of his potential in the second set of match. He started the beating from very first stroke and played with an aggressive approach all the way to game point situation.
Thammasin ended first half of the set with a competitive total and then won this crucial set with a tight yet favourable margin of 21-19.
Third set turned into survival of the fittest war as both contenders were just one step away either from next round entry or an early exit. They put all in their possession to pocket this final match point and their honest effort was applauded by the crowd.
Finally, this neck and neck tussle ended when Thammasin swept the table with an impressive score of 21-17.
