Union Township teen receives outstanding achievement award

Robbie-Wilde-deaf-djDJ and producer Robbie Wilde received a Mayor?s Award at a Union Township Committee meeting last night.

Wilde,?who?moved to Union in 1993 when he was in the 4th grade, lost his hearing due to ear infections?as a child and has been 90% deaf since age 11.

He acquired the skill and art of?music?by compensating for his loss of hearing with?senses?of sight and touch.? Wilde also began working with a speech?therapist?and reading lips.

He?s been spinning music for the better?part?of a decade, going from small clubs to this year?s?Consumer Electronics Show and Sundance Film Festival.

Known for his style of scratching and intricate phrasing, Wilde is planning a national and worldwide tour.
